On April 6th, London’s grassroots LGBTQ+ sporting community gathered under the lights of Proud City, London, for a night of celebration, connection, and pure inspiration – the Out for Sport Awards 2024/25.

The evening shone a spotlight on the outstanding achievements of LGBTQ+ friendly clubs, teams, and individuals who are breaking barriers, building communities, and creating inclusive spaces through sport.

From martial arts to netball, rowing to dance, the awards honoured a spectrum of talent, passion and dedication.

Standout Moments from the Awards

Club of the Year: Ishigaki Jujitsu
Celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2024, Ishigaki Jujitsu earned the title of Club of the Year for its remarkable growth, visibility, and commitment to inclusive martial arts. Over 100 belt graduations and a record number of new joiners say it all.

Emerging Club of the Year: North London Lob-sters
Only founded in 2022, this dynamic tennis club already boasts 400+ members and an innovative approach to coaching and accessibility.

Heartfelt Highlight: Lucy Bassett-Butt
Winner of Newcomer of the Year, Lucy of Camden Shorinji Kempo was recognised for her uplifting presence, rapid progression, and her advocacy for inclusivity. Her joy and dedication lit up the room and captured hearts.

Ivan Bussens Lifetime Achievement: Ryan Watson
Founder of South London Smashers and driving force behind collaborative LGBTQ+ tennis initiatives, Ryan was honoured for his impact and unwavering leadership.

With awards also recognising inclusivity, community spirit, competition excellence, and charitable impact, the Out for Sport Awards were more than just a celebration. They were a testament to the power of sport to bring people together and drive real change.
