Volunteer with Out For Sport

Want to meet new people, support inclusive sport and give something back to the LGBTQ+ community? You don’t need experience, a sports background or lots of spare time, just some energy and a wish to make sport more welcoming for everyone.

Out For Sport is a volunteer-run charity (opens another website). Every event we run, every club we support and every person who finds their place in sport happens because of people like you.

Current volunteer roles

Whether it’s every week or now and then, there’s a role that fits around your life. Right now we’re looking for help with:

  • Events

Helping run festivals, fundraisers and outreach days across London.

  • Social media

Creating content and sharing stories on Instagram and beyond.

  • Member engagement

Supporting and connecting with Out For Sport member clubs.

  • Admin and coordination

Keeping things running behind the scenes.

Some roles are fully remote, others are in person across London. Most need just 1–2 hours a week, though our events roles are more occasional.

Not sure which suits you? Just register your interest and we’ll figure it out together.

Why volunteer with Out For Sport?

You don’t need to be sporty, experienced, or even LGBTQ+ yourself. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds. What matters is that you care about making sport more inclusive and welcoming for everyone. As a volunteer you’ll:

  • Help make sport safe and welcoming for LGBTQ+ people across London and the South East
  • Join one of London’s most vibrant and inclusive communities
  • Choose flexible hours that work around your life
  • Build new skills and connect with like-minded people

Your time helps build real community, and London Royals Hockey Club (opens another website), one of our network clubs, knows that better than anyone. Their story below says it best.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to volunteer?

No experience needed. We welcome anyone who wants to get involved. We’ll give you all the info and support you need, so you’ll never be left on your own.

Can allies volunteer with Out for Sport?

Absolutely. You don’t have to be part of the LGBTQ+ community to support LGBTQ+ inclusive sport. Allies are an important part of making sport truly inclusive.

Do I need to be sporty?

Not at all. Many of the available roles, like secretary, social media, and membership admin are entirely behind the scenes. No kit required.

How much time do I need to give?

It depends on the role. Some volunteers help out once a week for an hour or two. Others help only at events, which might be once every few months. You can choose what works best for you.

Can I volunteer just once or for a short time?

Yes, we often need extra help for one-off events, like the Out for Sport Festival, or LGBTQ+ Sports Fair. It’s a great way to try volunteering without a regular commitment.

Can I volunteer with a friend or my team at work?

Yes, definitely. Volunteering with friends, colleagues, or your team can be a lot of fun. Get in touch via our contact form and we’ll help set it up.

Is there a minimum age?

Volunteers need to be 18 years or over, as Out For Sport works with adult clubs and events.

We're a small team doing big things. Every person who gets involved makes a real difference to LGBTQ+ people finding their place in sport.
